Sunday Service Recap: March 23, 2014

March 23, 2014

Redeemer Church

Champaign-Urbana, IL

All of the music was chosen because of the overarching themes of praise to our great God for who He is and what He has done.

Call to Worship: All Creatures of Our God and King written by Francis of Assisi

Welcome

Reading: John Wesley’s rules for congregational singing

Song: God of Wonders written by Marc Byrd and Steve Hindalong

These first two songs where meant to help us reflect on the glory of God.  First, in All Creatures of Our God and King we sang about how all creation proclaims the glory of God – “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy” (Psalm 96:11-12 ESV).  Then we focused on the character of God, as we sang in God of Wonders and How Great is Our God about His holiness, how He is worthy of all our praise.

Confession of Sin: We perceive ourselves rightly, only in light of who God is and so we moved to a time of confession to acknowledge our need of Him through repentance.

Prayer: Valley of Vision, The Precious Blood

Song: Son of God written by Ed Cash, Gordan Cochran, Jon Neufeld, Tim Neufeld

Song: Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above written by Charles Wesley, performed by Leigh Nash.

After the time of confession the next two songs were meant to remind us and help us proclaim the glory of God through what Christ has done for us on the cross.  In Son of God we sang about how the “ shaper of the stars” was “broken on the altar of love” for our sins.  We sang out on Praise the Lord who Reigns Above about the name of the risen Christ who rules and reigns in heaven.  “Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.”
(Psalm 96:1-2 ESV)
