Sunday Service Recap: June 22, 2014

June 24, 2014

Redeemer Church

Champaign-Urbana, IL

Call to Worship: Come Praise and Glorify written by Bob Kauflin and Tim Chester

Welcome

Scripture Reading: Valley of Vision, Confession and Petition

Time of confession

Song: Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above written by Charles Wesley, performed by Leigh Nash.

I hope it is natural for us to sing praises to God after confessing our sins and remembering the mercy we have been shown in the gospel.  We have every reason in the universe to praise the Lord who reigns above when we remember how we have been rescued from the wrath of God by the blood of Jesus.

Song: All Creatures of Our God and King written by Francis of Assisi

This is quickly becoming one my favorite songs.  Since we have added the two new verses this song is much more gospel-focused.  Verse three highlights the work of Christ in defeating every sin and verse four brings redemption full circle by focusing our attention to the future return and reign of Christ.

Offering

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:6-18

Prayer: Iraqi Christians

It was good to spend time praying for the Christians in Iraq who are experiencing intensified persecution due to the conflict that has arisen there in recent days.  May we never forget our brothers and sisters who risk their lives for the sake of their faith every day.

Song: Thy Mercy My God written by John Stocker, arranged by Caedmon’s Call, with original chorus written by Caleb Billingsley.

Song: In Christ Alone words and music Keith Getty and Stuart Townend

Sermon by Steve Matteucci: God’s Heart for Holiness, Deuteronomy 10:12-14

Song: Before the Throne of God Above, Charitie Lees Bancroft and Vikki Cook
